Jack Dugan’s second goal of the game nudged the Chicago Steel past the Waterloo Black Hawks, 3-2 in overtime Saturday at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
Dugan capitalized on a two-on-one feed from Graham Lillibridge 1:08 into overtime, redirecting the pass across the goal line.
The Steel had a strong start, including the opening goal at 3:12 of the first period. Samuel Bucek forced a turnover in the neutral zone and hit Blake McLaughlin coming up left wing for a score on the resulting two-on-one. The 1-0 lead lasted until 16:28. Calvin Pokorny and Matej Blumel worked the puck behind the Steel net, setting up Garrett Klee with an open side for his second goal in as many games.
During the second, Jack Drury gave the Black Hawks a brief lead. At 12:21, he was in position to tip Hank Sorensen’s power play shot from the right point. Chicago tied it just over two minutes later. Dugan’s initial shot deflected up into the air off Matej Tomek; the forward got another touch on the puck to deflect it in.
The Hawks are back on home ice next Friday and Saturday against the Fargo Force at 7:05 p.m. each evening. Christmas-themed festivities are scheduled for both nights, including a visit from Santa Claus on Saturday and a Red-Out on Friday.
