Jack Drury and Jared Moe will represent the Waterloo Black Hawks during the 2018 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in January, the United States Hockey League announced on Wednesday.
The exhibition highlights the league’s leading candidates for the 2018 National Hockey League Draft. This season’s USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game will be played in Kearney, Nebraska at Viaero Center, hosted by the Tri-City Storm. Prior to the game on Tuesday, January 9th, players will participate in a variety of on- and off-ice tests and events.
In November, Drury was graded as a “B” prospect by NHL Central Scouting, suggesting that he is a candidate to be chosen in the second or third round of the draft. Spending his second season in Waterloo, the Harvard recruit currently leads the Hawks and is tied for 11th in scoring league-wide with 17 points (four goals, 13 assists). The total has already surpassed the 12 points he produced last year as a 16-year-old rookie. Drury is currently preparing to represent the United States during the 2016 World Junior A Challenge in Nova Scotia.
Moe made his USHL debut with a 2-0 shutout of the Dubuque Fighting Saints on October 13th. It was the first of two shutouts earned at this early stage of the season, which have helped boost the 18-year-old among the league leaders in goals-against average (2nd, 1.71) and save percentage (2nd, 93.5%). Moe is 7-3-0. Last month, he committed to the University of Minnesota Gopher hockey program for the 2019/20 season.
Last winter, Shane Bowers, Mikey Anderson, and Nick Swaney each appeared in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. Swaney recorded the game-winning goal during the Western Conference’s 4-0 victory. All three of the Black Hawks who appeared during the event were later selected during the 2017 NHL Draft: Bowers in the first round by the Ottawa Senators, Anderson in the 4th round by the L.A. Kings, and Swaney in the seventh round by the Minnesota Wild.
