Black Hawks Have New Voice

Tim Harwood Joins Team As Play-By-Play Announcer

The Waterloo Black Hawks have announced that Tim Harwood will be their play-by-play announcer for the 2005-2006 season. Harwood comes to the Black Hawks from the broadcast booth of the Waterloo Bucks of the Northwoods League, where he spent the summer calling baseball games.

“Hockey and baseball are a lot different, but I’m looking forward to the challenge. I like the city and the organization so I’m happy to be staying in Waterloo,” said Harwood.

Before joining the Black Hawks and Bucks, Harwood worked in Central Iowa for radio stations KKRF and KGRA, covering high school sports. His news coverage won awards from the Iowa Broadcast News Association and the multi-state Northwest Broadcast News Association.

A graduate of Valparaiso University, Harwood was a student broadcaster at WVUR.

Tim is originally from West Chicago, IL and is a die hard Chicago Black Hawks fan. In the summer of 2004, he married Laura Gilbert, a middle school teacher in Boone, IA.

Fans will get their first chance to here him broadcast Black Hawks hockey on September 24th, when the Hawks travel to Green Bay, WI to take on the Gamblers. The team’s home opener is October 1st against the Indiana Ice. Tickets for all the regular season games will go on sale Tuesday, September 27th.
