Waterloo Outdistances Cedar Rapids, Dubuque

For the third consecutive season, the Waterloo Black Hawks have earned the prestigious Dupaco Cowbell Cup trophy as eastern Iowa’s top hockey team.

Waterloo edged the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Dubuque Fighting Saints in a series which came down to the final weekend of the 2018/19 United States Hockey League regular season.  The Hawks earned 17 standings points in the relevant games, two more than the RoughRiders and ten more than the Fighting Saints.

A 2-1 win against Dubuque on April 12th assured the title on a tie-breaker with the RoughRiders.  Waterloo won the trophy outright with a 6-2 victory in a rematch the next night.

Dupaco has been the presenting sponsor of the Cowbell Cup since 2015/16.

“Supporting community events and bringing value to our members are both important Dupaco initiatives,” said Joe Hearn, President and CEO, Dupaco Community Credit Union. “As the presenting sponsor of the Dupaco Cowbell Cup series, we’re supporting three of the communities in which we have a strong presence of Dupaco Credit Union members. This partnership allows us to help provide excellent family-friendly events to our members and the community at large.”

Dupaco Community Credit Union is a full-service, member-owned financial cooperative.  With offices located in Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Dubuque, and Cedar Rapids, Dupaco helps to improve the financial lives of its more than 109,000 member-owners while making a positive difference in the communities it serves.

The Black Hawks also won the trophy in 2013/14, giving Waterloo the title in four of nine seasons in which it has been contested.
