Stampede Advance on Another Five-on-Three Goal

Brian Chambers scored at 8:21 of overtime Wednesday to give the Sioux Falls Stampede a 2-1, series-clinching victory in Game Four of a USHL Western Conference semifinal against the Waterloo Black Hawks at Denny Sanford Premier Center.

While Chambers’ goal was the winner, it was Max Crozier’s game-tying score with just over four minutes left in regulation which fit the pattern of the playoffs.  For the third time in six postseason games, the Stampede capitalized for a crucial goal in the final ten minutes of regulation as the result of a two-man advantage.  From just left of center in the deep slot, Crozier blasted in a one-timer at 15:55, teed up by Anthony Romano.

Eight days earlier, Sioux Falls had scored a five-on-three game-winner during Game One of their initial series against the Sioux City Musketeers.  Then last Friday, the Stampede recorded a game-tying tally with two Black Hawks in the box during Game One against Waterloo.  Sioux Falls went on to win that game, 3-2 in overtime.

For the series, Sioux Falls had 36 power plays in four games.  Their only goals came in two-man advantage situations, during which they recorded goals on three of five opportunities.

Once into overtime, Chambers’ decisive score came on an attempt from below the icing line out of the right wing corner, catching part of Evan Fear’s equipment to sneak in.

Waterloo’s only goal came on a power play in the second period.  Jacob Bengtsson slung a pass from the left circle to Kyle Haskins for a redirection at the opposite side of the crease at 14:01 of the second.  The Hawks would have only one more chance on special teams, finishing the night one-for-five and ending the series seven-for-23.

The Stampede now advance to meet the Tri-City Storm during the USHL Western Conference Final Series.
