The Omaha Lancers used a decisive third period to drop the Waterloo Black Hawks 6-2 in the first preseason test for both teams on Friday evening.
The action at Ralston Arena was spurred in the middle of the opening period when Omaha’s Alexander Campbell and Jack Jensen scored less than a minute apart.
The Hawks cut into the deficit with 2:44 remaining before intermission as John Waldron delivered for Waterloo. Then in the second, Justin Thompson tied the score at 14:40, with what proved to be the only goal of the period.
However, Omaha pulled away in the final 20 minutes. Jensen scored his second of the game to break the tie at 6:54 of the third. Two minutes later, Zach Plucinski added the game’s only special teams tally during a Lancer power play. Both Jensen and Plucinski would add assists later in the third on subsequent Lancer scores.
The Hawks play their first home preseason game of the fall on Sunday at 3:05 against the Madison Capitols. Tickets are on sale now by clicking here
