Karen’s Print Rite brings you regular updates on former Waterloo Black Hawks players.  This week’s top performers include:

#3 – Craig Smith
Nashville Predators (NHL) • Forward

With ten days and five games remaining this month, Smith needs just one more February goal to make this his highest-scoring month of the season.  Last Thursday, he produced his first NHL hat trick – including the game-winning goal – during a 5-0 win against the New York Islanders.  Over four appearances in the last seven days, Smith has four goals.  Now with 17 this season, he is tied for the second-highest total among Predators players and on the cusp of the sixth 20-goal campaign of his career.

#2 – Jacob MacDonald
Colorado Eagles (AHL) • Defenseman

MacDonald has scored in three consecutive games and now leads all American Hockey League defensemen with 14 goals this season.  That goal total in 48 games matches his count from 72 AHL contests last winter.  During three appearances in the last week, MacDonald had four goals and an assist.  Adding his assist numbers, he has 37 points during 2019/20 (fourth among AHL defensemen) and is currently riding a five-game point streak.

#1 – Zach Sanford
St. Louis Blues (NHL) • Forward

With four goals against the Vegas Golden Knights last Thursday, Sanford had one of the finest individual single-game performances of any former Black Hawk at the NHL level.  His spectacular night began just 25 seconds after puck drop, and he would go on to score at least once in each period.  Sanford struck for his fifth goal of the week on Saturday against the Nashville Predators.  He has 13 goals in 47 games this winter, which surpasses his goal total from all his previous NHL regular season appearances combined.
