Karen’s Print Rite brings you regular updates on former Waterloo Black Hawks players. This week’s edition features the top performers during the 2019/20 ECHL season:
#3 – Blake Winiecki
Florida Everblades • Forward
When the ECHL season ended, the Florida Everblades were tied with the South Carolina Stingrays for the league’s top point total. Winiecki was the highest scorer for a defensively stingy Everblades club, recording 50 points on 24 goals and 26 assists. He was also among the league’s best plus/minus performers at +27 (10th overall in the ECHL). From February 7th through 23rd, he had six goals and six assists in a ten appearances. Winiecki’s late-season production was strong enough merit a call-up by the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers for seven games before their season was suspended.
#2 – Parker Milner
South Carolina Stingrays • Goalie
Milner has established himself as both one of the ECHL’s finest goalies and a mainstay of the South Carolina Stingrays over the last four seasons. In 2019/20, he led the league with seven shutouts during 30 appearances. That helped to slice his goals-against average down to 2.20, which ranked second in the ECHL, while his .923 save percentage was sixth. Milner’s final record came in at 20-6-3 and pushing his career win total in the league over 140. In a one-game call-up to the Hershey Bears, Milner made the most of his opportunity with a 19-save shutout.
#1 – Tyler Sheehy
Allen Americans • Forward
The ECHL Rookie of the Year had a stunningly successful first season in pro hockey. Sheehy ranked third in the league with 70 points, recorded in just 47 games. His 44 assists tied for the best mark on the circuit, while his 26 goals tied for seventh. Sheehy’s points figure was the most among ECHL rookies, and his goal total tied for first among the group. The former University of Minnesota star was particularly dangerous in December when he tallied at least one goal or assist in 13 of 14 appearances. During that month, Sheehy scored ten goals and set up 18 others. He ended the year with 22 multipoint performances.
