In 2019/20, dozens of former Waterloo Black Hawks played professional hockey in North America and across the globe. Many more made a living in other ways, applying the dedication and work ethic they developed on the ice to other professions.
Today, the Black Hawks began introducing some of these alumni through the new Black Hawks in Business initiative on waterlooblackhawks.com. This page will provide information about companies started or operated by Waterloo alumni.
“We are obviously very proud of the players who have lived their dream of reaching the NHL and achieving other levels of hockey success, but we are just as proud of those who have gone on to realize new dreams while contributing to their communities, creating jobs, and coming up with new ideas,” said Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O’Handley.
The new page (waterlooblackhawks.com/blackhawksinbusiness) went live with a small selection of alumni companies. Regular updates will be made as more information is provided by former Hawks. Players who own or operate an independent, family business are encouraged to share the details through the form on the page. The directory of information is sortable by product or service type, location, and whether or not the business offers an eCommerce option.
“There are Black Hawks fans everywhere, so we hope this page might help make some business connections,” said O’Handley. “We see this as a type of networking opportunity, and I hope it will also be useful to fans to know more about the wide variety of paths our players have taken.”
The team also intends to periodically spotlight “Black Hawks in Business” companies through posts on social media and feature articles on waterlooblackhawks.com.
