Omaha Forward Has Big Night

Tyler Carpenter didn’t record the first goal, but he was responsible for the rest of the Omaha Lancers’ scoring Friday during a 5-2 win against the Waterloo Black Hawks at Ralston Arena.

Another Lancer veteran forward delivered the opening tally 5:41 into the game; Ryan Lautenbach pulled the puck out of the right wing corner and brought it to the side of the net to stuff inside the post.  Nearly five minutes later, Carpenter found the net when his rising shot from the blue line tipped off a Black Hawks, before sailing under the crossbar.

Still in the first, the Hawks converted the first of two late period power plays.  Cooper Wylie connected with Kyler Kleven on a pass across the slot. Kleven was below the right faceoff dot but still able to score from the sharp angle at 17:13.

The game remained 2-1 well into the second until Carpenter recorded goals on back-to-back shifts.  At 12:38, he redirected an attempt by Matt Basgall, then at 14:26 he slipped in a try from beside the goal.

Waterloo sawed the deficit back to two with their second power play marker of the night.  At 3:24 of the third period, Owen Ozar batted down a shot near the top of the Lancer crease.  That caught Omaha goalie Jakub Dobes leaning the wrong way toward the puck’s original flight path.  Ozar then pushed it past Dobes’ left skate for the conversion.

However, Carpenter capped his four-goal effort at 11:12, pouncing on a rebound in the slot during a power play after a back-and-forth passing sequence led to an initial Omaha try and a save by Hawks’ goalie Jack Williams.

Waterloo’s final game before Christmas is Saturday in Sioux Falls versus the Stampede at 7:05 p.m.
