Auction After April 10th Game Benefits Cedar Valley United Way

By designing and assembling world-renowned equipment, offering life-changing career opportunities, and improving the community through volunteerism and investments, John Deere has been a vital part of the Cedar Valley for more than 100 years, and the Waterloo Black Hawks will salute that heritage April 9th and 10th when the team wears John Deere jerseys during games against the Sioux Falls Stampede.

The jerseys will be auctioned after the April 10th game to benefit the Cedar Valley United Way.  That Saturday matchup begins at 6:05 p.m.; puck drop on Friday, April 9th is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.  The Hawks’ annual John Deere Weekend is also highlighted by $5 tickets for John Deere employees, available with a special code through

“Generations of farm families have relied on equipment from John Deere, and generations of employees in Waterloo and other Midwestern communities have built lives with a job at John Deere as the stable foundation,” said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene.  “In a year which has seen many challenges, we are excited to partner with John Deere and Cedar Valley United Way at a time when both of those entities are more important than ever.”

John Deere is currently hiring dozens of new employees, with career fairs planned next Tuesday (April 6th) and Thursday (April 8th) at the John Deere Tractor and Engine Museum from noon to 6 p.m. each day.

Cedar Valley United Way works to advance the common good by focusing on education, heath, and financial stability. The organization notes that those are the building blocks for a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.  During its 2020/21 funding cycle, Cedar Valley United Way distributed over $1.7 million for programs focused on those objectives.

When the Hawks take the ice April 9th, John Deere’s trademarked green and yellow logo and name will be featured prominently on the chest of the primarily white sweaters.  The shoulders, upper sleeves, and underarms are green with a yellow band around the waist.  Names on the back are a matching green, with white numbers outlined in green.  The Black Hawks’ logo appears on the top of each shoulder.
