The Waterloo Black Hawks will host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and the Des Moines Buccaneers for preseason games at Young Arena this week.
The RoughRiders will visit first on Wednesday. The contest will be a preview of Waterloo’s regular season home opener against their rival, scheduled for Friday, October 1st. Over the 2021/22 season, Cedar Rapids will travel north on two other occasions: Thursday, November 25th and Saturday, January 22nd. The Hawks and RoughRiders have not met since February 15, 2020 due to derecho damage at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, which idled the RoughRiders last season.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers come to Young Arena Saturday. Des Moines will be Waterloo’s most prolific regular season opponent during 2021/22. The teams are scheduled to play eight times during the campaign, highlighted by the Bucs’ visit to Young Arena on New Year’s Eve. The Hawks won four of seven head-to-head contests last season. Both teams will enter this season with new head coaches: Matt Smaby leading Waterloo and Matt Curley piloting Des Moines.
Both home exhibition games will begin at 6 p.m.
Season ticket holders will be admitted to both home preseason games at no charge as a component of their season ticket package. Season tickets are still available for the coming year; additional details can be found at tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling (319) 232-3444. Single-game tickets for the September 15th and 18th exhibitions are currently on sale through the same link.
