Open Invitation to Celebrate 60 Seasons

By WBH, 03/16/22, 2:00PM CDT

Former Players Welcomed Back on April 2nd

Think of it as a homecoming or a reunion or – maybe most appropriately – as a celebration of 60 seasons of hockey in Waterloo on Saturday, April 2, when the Black Hawks host the Dubuque Fighting Saints at Young Arena.

The Hawks hope to recognize as many former player, coaches, and staff members as possible – plus their families – during that night’s 6:05 p.m. game.  Alumni attendees will receive complimentary tickets and be welcomed to a pregame reception.  A postgame celebration is also planned at the rink.

“There are so many people who have been part of our story, and we would like to see as many of them as possible,” said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene.  “With the passage of time and the changes that are natural for any organization that has been around this long, we don’t have contact information for everyone we would like to invite.  Therefore, I would like to ask for everyone’s help through social media, your personal contacts, and the old-fashioned grapevine: if you know a former Black Hawk, please share these details with him.”

A form for alumni to RSVP for April 2nd is available below.

The evening of April 2nd will include a special presentation recognizing alumni and former staff in attendance, 60th anniversary jerseys to be auctioned following the game to benefit Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity, and many toasts to "Season Sixty" will be made with the Waterloo Black Hawks' very own SingleSpeed dry-hopped pilsner.

To help commemorate 60 years of Black Hawks hockey, the team is also encouraging anyone to share vintage photos from the organization’s past. Photos can be emailed to Please include the name of those pictured and any additional contextual information.
U.S. Bank is the presenting partner of the 60th season of hockey in Waterloo.  Following the game on April 2nd, they will present 60th season game pucks to 1,000 lucky fans in attendance.  For tickets to the Hawks’ matchup against Dubuque or any other Hawks game during the remainder of the 2021/22 season, visit
