Last winter, the Waterloo Black Hawks edged the Dubuque Fighting Saints for hockey supremacy in eastern Iowa by winning the Dupaco Cowbell Cup; the two rivals meet for Waterloo’s 2017/18 home opening game at Young Arena on Saturday, October 14th, the Hawks announced Monday.
Few USHL teams have been as consistently successful during recent years. Over the last five seasons, Waterloo and Dubuque have combined for 371 regular season wins. Together the clubs have claimed two Anderson Cups and made three appearances in the Clark Cup Championship Series. Some of their most memorable games in that time have been head-to-head.
Last season, the Hawks won four of six meetings against the Saints. Four of those six games were settled by one goal, including a Black Hawks shootout win in October. This year’s debut at Young Arena will mark the second time since 2013 that Waterloo’s home schedule has opened with Dubuque.
Game time will be 7:05 for the October 14th contest. Single-game tickets for the home opener and all other games during the season will go on sale September 1st. Group reservations and season tickets are available now; for more information, call the Black Hawks front office at (319) 232-3444.
The remainder of Waterloo’s 2017/18 schedule will be released by the United States Hockey League on Tuesday morning.
