Former Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Chad Billins will skate for the United States National Select Team next month during the Deutschland Cup competition in Augsburg, Germany.

USA Hockey announced the roster for the tournament on Wednesday.

Billins is one of the 29 players named to the U.S. team and among 27 currently skating for a professional team in Europe.  This season, the 28-year-old is taking the ice for Linkoping HC of Sweden.

The U.S. competes in the Deutschland Cup during odd calendar years.  Other nations participating this year include Slovakia, Russia, and Germany during the weekend of November 10th through 12th.  The 2017 tournament will mark the sixth appearance for  Team USA, which first participated during 2007.

In 2007/08, Billins was part of a Black Hawks squad which reached the Clark Cup Championship Series.  Skating in all 60 regular season games, he recorded ten goals and 26 assists.  Billins added another nine points – including a team-leading five goals – during the 2008 playoffs.

Capping the four years which followed at Ferris State, the Michigan native led the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish during the NCAA Frozen Four.  The next season, he helped the Grand Rapids Griffins win the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup.  During 2013/14, Billins made his National Hockey League debut with the Calgary Flames.  His professional career has since included a stint in Russia, as well as Sweden.

Billins has prior experience at the Deutschland Cup after playing for the U.S. in 2015.
