Postgame Recap: Fargo Finishes on Top

By WBH, 10/27/17, 10:45PM CDT

Quick Start Makes the Difference

Two first period goals by the Fargo Force were more than the Waterloo Black Hawks could overcome Friday during a 3-1 loss at Young Arena.

Fargo moved to a 2-0 lead with goals separated by just less than five minutes during the mid-stages of the opening period.  At 6:41, Griffin Loughrin redirected a shot from just outside the crease.  During a power play at 11:02, Grant Hebert built the margin.  The big forward lifted in the rebound of Logan Jenuwine’s first chance after Hawks goaltender Matej Tomek had lost his stick due to contact with a passing player in the net mouth.

Waterloo drew back within a goal at 16:24.  Jackson Cates dodged a pair of defenders on the right boards, generating a shot stopped by Ryan Bischel.  The rebound toward the slot came back to Cates who lifted his second chance to the top corner.

During the second period, Tomek twice denied one-on-one Mark Senden chances, the first on a penalty shot and the second on a breakaway.  However, the Force still notched the only goal of the period at 17:19; Ryan Savage swatted the puck into the net from close range after an initial try by Ty Farmer.

A scoreless third period followed.  Each team had 22 shots for the night.

The Black Hawks are at home again Saturday at 7:05 against the Madison Capitols.  After the game, Waterloo’s pink breast cancer awareness jerseys will be auctioned, with profits presented to Beyond Pink TEAM, which helps patients in the Cedar Valley with breast cancer screening, treatment and recovery.  For tickets, call the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or visit
