Karen’s Print Rite brings you regular updates on former Waterloo Black Hawks players.  This week’s top performers include:

#3 – Tony Turgeon
Manchester Monarchs (ECHL) • Forward

The big tough guy used his hands for something unexpected.  When the Monarchs hosted the Greenville Swamp Rabbits last Friday, Turgeon scored in the first minute of the second period.  The shorthanded goal was flipped in from behind the net off the back of the opposing goalie and proved to be the game-winner during the 5-2 result.  Since beginning his professional career in 2013/14, Turgeon has now scored five goals, three of them in the ECHL.

#2 – Brady Vail
Norfolk Admirals (ECHL) • Forward

Making just his second appearance of the season, Vail delivered a hat trick during a 5-4 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays last Friday.  He scored all three of his goals during the opening period, helping to stake Norfolk to a 4-2 lead by intermission.  All three of Vail’s goals came at even strength.  It was the first hat trick of his professional career.  Former Hawk Joe Sova scored the other Norfolk goal.  One-time Waterloo goalie Jeff Jakaitis was the opposing (and winning) netminder.

#1 – Craig Smith
Nashville Predators (NHL) • Forward

Last Friday, Smith boosted the Predators to a 2-1 win against the Chicago Blackhawks.  During the second period he broke a 1-1 tie with what eventually became the 17th game-winning goal he has scored for Nashville.  For Smith, it was also the 100th regular season goal during his NHL career.  The next night, he scored again, providing a highlight during a 6-2 loss against the New York Islanders.  Both goals were on the power play.  It had been almost a year since the last time Smith recorded goals in consecutive games (he found the net last November 1st and 3rd on the road versus Colorado and Arizona respectively).
