Postgame Recap: Force Pull Away to Win

By WBH, 11/04/17, 10:45PM CDT

Two Hawks Get First Goals

Three third period goals by the Fargo Force were the difference Saturday at Scheels Arena, sending the home team past the Waterloo Black Hawks, 6-3.

Waterloo seized the lead at 13:23 of the opening period.  The puck came loose at the top of the blue paint and was knocked in by Danny DiGrande a split second before he was flattened by a John Schuldt crosscheck.  The Force created more opportunities later in the period, but Matej Tomek preserved the lead to intermission with a great glove save at 17:15, robbing Griffin Loughrin on a two-on-none breakaway.

A flurry of scoring in the second favored the Force.  Mark Senden capitalized at 5:12, registering an equalizer from close range on a pass out of the right corner.  At 11:04 during a Fargo power play, contact in the crease helped set up the opportunity for Grant Hebert to knock a second chance across the goal line.  William Fallstrom scored on a shorthanded breakaway at 18:16 to make the count 3-1.

However, Matt Koopman rallied the Hawks 41 seconds later, beating Ryan Bischel high to the glove side with a power play wrister from the right circle.

Garrett Wait tied the game 1:33 into the third period, using a quick release to finish a chance created in transition by Jack Drury.

However, the Force settled the issue with two power play goals by Ben Meyers, separated by just over two minutes, in the middle stages of the third.  The tallies were both created on passes which were delivered across the low slot to Meyers on the backside.  Loughran added an empty net goal with 30 seconds remaining.

The Hawks continue a five-game road trip next Friday and Saturday in Kearney, Nebraska, against the Tri-City Storm.
