The Waterloo Black Hawks invite all northeast Iowa teachers to break out their composition books or keyboards and enter to compete in the team’s first-ever “Dash for Cash” at Young Arena on Saturday, December 9th when the Hawks host the Fargo Force at 7:05 p.m.
A total of $2,500 in $1 bills will be scattered at center ice during intermission. Ten qualifying teachers will have the opportunity to collect as much of the money as they can before time runs out in order to purchase supplies and other resources for their classrooms.
“With the University of Northern Iowa producing some of the best teachers in the country right next door, the Cedar Valley is fortunate to have an abundance of great educators,” said Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene. “This is going to be a fun way to help a lot of excellent teachers and their students.”
To participate, teachers must submit a one page summary of how they would use the money they would collect. The assignment is due by 5 p.m. on Friday, November 17th. Please email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The selected educators will be announced the following week and profiled through the Black Hawks’ social media portals in the days leading up to the game.
“We appreciate events like this in the Cedar Valley that put a positive spin on education,” said Waterloo teacher Amy McGovern, who works at Lincoln and Lou Henry Elementary Schools.
Students and coworkers will be able to cheer on the teachers who are chosen to Dash for Cash; discounted tickets will be available. The Black Hawks also invite local businesses interested in increasing the available pool of cash to make a contribution. For more details, call the team’s front office at (319) 232-3444.
