Karen’s Print Rite brings you regular updates on former Waterloo Black Hawks players.  This week’s top performers include:

#3 – Shane Bowers
Boston University Terriers (NCAA) • Forward

During a Friday win versus Merrimack, Bowers turned in a strong performance, first scoring a go-ahead first period goal, which broke a 1-1 tie.  Later even at 3-3 with 4:27 remaining in regulation, he set up another go-ahead score, which proved to be the game-winner.  During a Saturday rematch, Bowers assisted on his second winning goal of the weekend as the Terriers came out on top, 3-1.  The freshman was +3 during the two games.  Bowers now has ten goals and eight assists in 24 games this season.

#2 – Phil Beaulieu
Northern Michigan Wildcats (NCAA) • Defenseman

Northern Michigan had already picked up a 3-2 Friday win when they came to the rink against Lake Superior State Saturday for a rematch.  Beaulieu was involved in all of the offense during the second game, helping the Wildcats secure another 3-2 result.  The offensively-minded defenseman scored on a power play to tie the count during the first period, then helped Northern Michigan take the lead with an assist in the second.  At 8:19 of the third, he notched the game-winner for his third point of the night.  The Wildcats are unbeaten in their last five games; Beaulieu now has eight goals and 15 assists this year.

#1 – Joe Pavelski
San Jose Sharks (NHL) • Forward

Playing four games in six days, the Sharks’ captain helped his team earn five standings points with a goal and four assists.  Pavelski set up a goal Thursday in a road loss at Colorado, but bounced back with his team against Pittsburgh Saturday.  In the 2-1 win, he assisted on both goals.  San Jose also defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-2 on Sunday.  Continuing the dizzying sequence on Tuesday, Pavelski scored unassisted in the first period, then helped create the vital third period goal with less than five minutes remaining, tying the game at 4-4 and forcing overtime.  Although Winnipeg prevailed, 5-4, the point helps secure San Jose’s position as the second place team in the Pacific Division.
