Forward Announces Notre Dame Commitment

Another generation of the Bakich family will be part of Notre Dame athletics following the commitment of Waterloo Black Hawks forward Solag Bakich to the Fighting Irish.

The Texas native joined the Hawks in November and contributed throughout Waterloo’s Anderson Cup championship season.  His father, Huntley, was a linebacker for the Irish football team during the Lou Holtz era.

A November trade with the Sioux City Musketeers brought the younger Bakich to the Black Hawks.  He made his first appearance for Waterloo on November 10th and went on to skate in 49 total games for the team, notching six goals and 18 assists.  Bakich was also +10 for the Hawks.

His first Black Hawk goal was scored during the opening minute of a nail-biting 5-4 road win against the Muskegon Lumberjacks on December 1st.  That was one of five multipoint performances that highlighted Bakich’s 2017/18 campaign in Waterloo.  In another, he assisted on the first goal and then scored the game winner during a 5-1 victory over the Dubuque Fighting Saints on March 10th.

With Bakich’s decision, 18 players on the 2017/18 Waterloo roster have an NCAA Division I college commitment.

Season tickets for the 2018/19 Black Hawks schedule are on sale now.  For more details about the savings and special benefits which season ticket holders receive, call the Black Hawks at (319) 232-3444.
