Karen’s Print Rite brings you regular updates on former Waterloo Black Hawks players. This week’s top performers include:
#3 – Zach Sanford
St. Louis Blues (NHL) • Forward
Sanford made his return to the National Hockey League after more than a year, following a training camp injury in the fall of 2017. His initial game was against the Montreal Canadiens Wednesday. Then Sanford notched his first goal of the season versus the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday, as the Blues came out on top, 4-1. His score in the second period that night turned out to be the game-winner. Sanford also tallied an assist on during a 5-4 overtime loss against the Winnipeg Jets Monday.
#2 – Bobby Trivigno
Massachusetts Minutemen (NCAA) • Forward
It’s hard to imagine a much better start to a college hockey career than what Trivigno has achieved in his first two weekends of action for UMass. After recording three assists during a two-game sweep of RPI October 12th and 13th, Trivigno followed up by scoring a pair of goals as the Minutemen surprised Ohio State, 6-3 on Friday. The Buckeyes evened the weekend the following night, but Trivigno claimed another assist to give him a point in every game this season and six total.
#1 – Max Coatta
Minnesota State Mavericks (NCAA) • Forward
The Mavericks blasted North Dakota 7-3 on the road Friday, behind Coatta’s second NCAA hat trick. The effort included a pair of power play goals by the Minnesota State senior captain. Two of Coatta’s tallies came in the Mav’s four-goal second period, when Minnesota State seized control. The next night, the Fighting Hawks got revenge, 4-3, but they still couldn’t stop Coatta from claiming a goal and assist, giving him five points in two games. As a result, Coatta was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week.
