Karen’s Print Rite brings you regular updates on former Waterloo Black Hawks players.  This week’s top performers include:

#3 – Jacob MacDonald
Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) • Defenseman

On the day after Thanksgiving, MacDonald lit the lamp in overtime to push the Thunderbirds to a 4-3 victory against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.  It was his sixth goal and third power play goal of the season at the AHL level.  Two nights later, he had a power play assist in the third period, but Springfield’s comeback versus the Bridgeport Sound Tigers fell short in a game which also finished 4-3.  MacDonald has 13 points in 15 AHL games, most among Thunderbirds defensemen and tied for 12th in the league for blue liners.

#2 – Cal Petersen
L.A. Kings (NHL) • Goalie

Petersen started four NHL games in net during a seven-day span and got better as the week went by.  Sunday, he stopped 32 of 34 Edmonton Oilers shots during a 5-2 victory.  On the road Tuesday, Petersen denied the Vancouver Canucks on 32 of 33 to help the Kings prevail 2-1 in overtime.  Since being called up in early November, the Waterloo native has played in eight games, starting seven.  He has four wins, including a shutout.  Two of the victories have come in games settled in overtime.

#1 – Tyler Sheehy
Minnesota Golden Gophers (NCAA) • Forward

As the Gophers’ Big Ten schedule began on Friday, Sheehy was the #1 star of the game, producing a pair of goals to help Minnesota to a 7-2 victory on home ice against Michigan State.  The next night, he produced two more scores, both on the power play.  They were the only home goals during a 4-2 loss.  It was a breakout weekend for the senior, who had been limited to one goal over the first nine games of the year. During 122 career NCAA games, Sheehy has 115 points.
