As a wise droid once said, “Let the Wookiee win,” and the Waterloo Black Hawks have done just that in choosing the design for their 2019 Star Wars jerseys, which will be worn on Star Wars Night – January 5, 2019 – when the Hawks host the Lincoln Stars at 7:05 p.m.
This season’s jersey artwork simulates the furry and fierce Chewbacca, first mate on the Millennium Falcon and loyal friend to Han Solo. The mostly orange jersey is in the image of the character’s torso, including the bandolier across his chest, overlaid with a Black Hawks logo.
This is just the second time that the Black Hawks have worn a jersey featuring a design inspired by the iconic series. As was the case last winter, the jerseys will be auctioned after the game to benefit Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity.
“We are grateful once again to the staff at Lucasfilm for their willingness to let us provide our fans with this fun crossover between our team and these beloved movies,” said Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene. “We are excited to once again make this a way to help Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity achieve their goal of providing attainable, decent housing.”
Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With financial support, volunteering, or by adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. An array of characters from the Star Wars series will be at the game in full costume for the Hawks/Stars matchup. The Korriban Squad is the Official Squad representing the State of Iowa for The 501st Legion/Central Garrison. Plan to snap pics throughout the evening and share them with the hashtag #WBHStarWars.
