Karen’s Print Rite brings you regular updates on former Waterloo Black Hawks players.  This week’s top performers include:

#3 – Joe Pavelski
San Jose Sharks (NHL) • Forward

In front of the hometown fans in San Jose, Pavelski took the ice during the 2019 NHL All-Star Game.  The Pacific Division All-Stars were eliminated in the semifinals of the event, 10-4 by the Central Division’s top players.  Nonetheless, Pavelski still had a pair of assists.  He has now appeared in three of the last four NHL All-Star events.  Pavelski has three goals and four assists in All-Star competition.  The Black Hawks have now had a former player participate in each of the last four NHL All-Star contests.

#2 – C.J. Motte
Allen Americans (ECHL) • Goalie

During a six-day span, Motte appeared in four games, with a 2-1-1 record.  The busy week began with a 33-save road shutout on January 25th against Tulsa; Allen came out on top 5-0.  Tulsa bounced back for a 4-3 win the next night, and playing for the third consecutive day, the Oilers went on to nip the Americans 5-4 in overtime, despite 37 Motte saves.  Undaunted, the former Hawks netminder stopped 26 of 28 in a 4-2 Wednesday win against the Idaho Steelheads.  All totaled, he stopped 123 of 134 shots (91.8%).

#1 – Tyler Sheehy
Minnesota Golden Gophers (NCAA) • Forward

Sheehy was involved in nearly half of the scoring last Friday during a 9-4 Gophers win against their cross-border rivals, the Wisconsin Badgers.  He had a goal and three assists, all on special teams (the three assists were on the power play and the goal was shorthanded).  The next night, Minnesota fell 4-3, but Sheehy had three more power play assists.  The big weekend boosted him to 27 points in 25 appearances this winter.  For his NCAA career, Sheehy now has 135 points in 136 games.
